Welcome to the on-line information about the upcoming FCO/ACCUO Biennial Conference which, for the first time we’re excited to hold in the Maritimes. The Planning Committee has been hard at work on a program that promises to be educational, interesting and full of ideas to take home. We’ll spend half of each day in plenary sessions with simultaneous interpretation and the other half in breakouts in either English or French, plus one bilingual.
We’ll also host annual general meetings for FCO and ACCUO – everyone welcome! But don’t worry; the conference won’t be all work – there will be a reception and tour at Province House, the historic (1819) Nova Scotia legislature, and lots of networking opportunities. We look forward to seeing you in Halifax!

Conference and pre-conference workshop fees are listed on the registration forms. The fee includes daily breakfasts, lunches, materials and the reception.

Porter Airlines is offering FCO/AOUCC conference delegates a 15% rebate on any return airfare (including sales and special fares) to and from Halifax. For more information, click here.
If you have to cancel, we welcome your substituting someone else to take your place. Please let us know in writing who that person is so we can make a badge, etc.
If a substitute is not possible, please advise us in writing. We can offer a full refund less $25 until May 10 and less $50 between May 11 and May 31. From June 1, no refunds are offered.
Our commitment to the environment
In keeping with FCO’s and ACCUO’s responsibility to the environment, we are making the following efforts to have a GREEN conference.
- To save some trees and cut down on wasted photocopies, we are asking each of you to print your own programs, participant lists, speaker bios, etc. About two weeks before the conference, we’ll send you links to the various documents so you can print the ones you’ll use or keep an electronic version handy.
- We won’t be offering bottled water but we will have lots of pitchers of water. If you’re a water drinker, we encourage you to bring a refillable bottle.
- We plan to provide sturdy cloth conference bags for your papers and, of course, for your shopping! (Halifax has some really nice shopping opportunities!)
- We know our conference speakers aren’t motivated to share their ideas and experience in the expectation of a gift. Too often those gifts sit on a shelf just gathering dust. With that in mind, and in keeping with our aim to reduce waste, in lieu of gifts the conference will make a donation to the Nature Conservancy of Canada in recognition of our speakers. Check out the Conservancy’s work at www.natureconservancy.ca. In recognition of Nova Scotia’s hospitality, our donation will go to the NCC’s work in Deep Cove, Lunenberg County NS.
We will have a display table for literature, office souvenirs, etc. Please bring brochures, souvenirs, reports etc. from your office to share with other participants. Maximum 60 copies of each (and you get to take any leftovers home!). If you have a large report, bring one copy and people can sign up if they want one. Or provide a link to an electronic copy.
Presentations and Handouts
Following the conference, all available presentations and handouts will be posted on the FCO website. You will be sent the links to all the documents by email and they will be accessible to conference attendees only.
