New mandate for the Québec Ombudsman

New mandate for the Québec Ombudsman

May 3, 2017

A new law came into force in Québec on May 1, 2017. Under the Act to facilitate the disclosure of wrongdoings relating to public bodies, the Québec Ombudsman is mandated to handles disclosure of wrongdoing committed regarding any public body subject to the Act. From now on, whistleblowers will enjoy reliable, safe and independent recourse. The Act provides protection against reprisal for whistleblowers or those who cooperate in an audit or investigation stemming from disclosure of a wrongdoing.
