The Forum of Canadian Ombudsman (FCO) is awarding a research grant in the amount of $10,000 to

1) support an Ombuds-focused research project that will contribute to higher levels of effectiveness in the implementation of the Ombuds/man/person role in the Canadian context; or

2) conduct an environmental scan to identify all of the Ombuds/man/person roles that are operating in all of the provinces and territories in Canada and to create a user-friendly database that can be easily updated. The final report or database must be completed by September 30, 2018.

The Research Proposal must include:
• Title of research project and two-sentence summary description of the proposed project;
• Scope and objectives of the Project;
• Theoretical approach that will be used by the researcher or research team;
• The significance of the project as it relates to existing research and literature;
• Detailed research plan and methods to be used;
• Schedule of work (time frame for each phase leading up to the final completion date);
• The name and qualifications of the Principal Investigator or researcher or the names and qualifications of the research team;
• ‘Knowledge Mobilization’ methods proposed for dissemination of the results of the research project to a large audience.

Please note that ‘knowledge mobilization’, for the purposes of this funding, includes processes that build a flow of communication between academic research(ers) and governmental bodies, not-for-profit and for-profit organizations which have established or are in the process of establishing Ombuds roles and Ombuds professional associations. The ultimate purpose for structured dissemination of the research results is to provide avenues to share knowledge for increased administrative fairness and access to justice for the betterment of society.

The maximum length of the proposal including the proposed budget is 6 pages in 12 point font.
