New Deputy Ombudsman sworn in at Alberta Omdusman

Peter Sherstan was sworn in as the Deputy Ombudsman and Deputy Public Interest Commissioner in August 2018.  In this dual role, he oversees four investigative teams and supports the Ombudsman and Public Interest Commissioner, Marianne Ryan, as she works toward, “. . . improving the lives of Albertans and making sure everyone gets a fair shake.” More…

Acting Ombudsman appointed at Manitoba Ombudsman

Manitoba Ombudsman Charlene Paquin resigned from the office to take a position as head of the Manitoba Civil Service Commission. Ms Paquin was appointed Ombudsman in May 2015 and leaves the office in her first term of service. Marc Cormier was appointed acting ombudsman on 31 July 2018. Since joining the office of the Manitoba Ombudsman in 2012, Mr Cormier has held the positions of manager, PIDA investigations and deputy Ombudsman. Prior to 2012, he spent 18 years as a commissioned officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, which included experience with administrative investigations, alternative dispute resolution and rights-based complaints, such as grievance investigations. Mr Cormier also taught investigation techniques as the subject matter expert on the military grievance system. More…

Acting Ombudsman appointed at the City of Gatineau

Ms. Maryline Caron, Acting Ombudsman for Ville de Gatineau. During her mandate, the Acting Ombudsman will offer accessible and free recourse to any Gatineau resident who believes that he or she has been aggrieved by a decision, action or omission by the municipal administration. Ms. Caron spent more than 30 years in the health and social services network as an intervenor and middle manager at Pavillon du Parc and as a senior manager at CSSS de Gatineau. She relies greatly on her knowledge and experience as a local service quality commissioner in providing efficient and quality service. More…
