The Ombudsman is an independent Officer of the Ontario Legislative Assembly with a mandate to promote fairness, accountability and transparency in the public sector by resolving and investigating public complaints and systemic issues within the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction. The Ombudsman strives to be an agent of positive change by promoting good governance in the public sector and promoting compliance with French language service rights as well as the rights of children and youth.

Reporting to the Ontario Ombudsman, the French Language Services Commissioner (Commissioner) provides leadership to the French Language Services (FLS) Unit which is responsible for promoting and protecting the French language rights of Ontario residents, including their right to receive services in French. As a member of the Executive Management Team, the Commissioner offers sound counsel on organizational priorities but especially as it relates to the FLS Unit and its operations.  The Commissioner ensures the smooth functioning of the Unit in alignment with the Office’s strategic direction.

As the ideal candidate, you are recognized as a leader of impartiality, fairness and equity, and have an excellent knowledge of the Francophone community of Ontario, the promotion of language rights as well as the French Language Services Act. You have strong diplomatic skills and are known to build effective internal and external working relationships with diverse stakeholder groups, who at times have differing interests.  A natural collaborator, you will bring credibility with the Francophone community of Ontario, government, and colleagues.  You have a reputation as a motivational leader and an exceptional communicator in French and English, bringing a record of success in leading high-performance multidisciplinary teams and organizational change initiatives.
