Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman’s Annual Report 2018-2019

Canada’s Taxpayers’ Ombudsman, Sherra Profit, released her 2018-2019 Annual Report, Breaking Down Barriers to Service on June 11, 2019. As the 11th Annual Report published by her Office, this edition marked the beginning of a new decade since its inaugural publication of the 2008-2009 Annual Report.

The 2018-2019 Annual Report provides a look at the activities and achievements of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman and her Office, identifies key Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) service issues, examines trends and outlines the most common complaints received from taxpayers and benefit recipients, for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.

8:32 pm Ombudsman for Bermuda’s Annual Report 2018 Tabled

Friday June 21, 2019 – The Ombudsman for Bermuda, Victoria Pearman, is pleased to announce her Annual Report 2018 was tabled in the House of Assembly and is now available to the public.  The Annual Report 2018 presents the Ombudsman’s yearly update to the public on the work of her Office. In 2018 the Ombudsman’s Office handled 309 cases, including 166 new complaints, 98 new enquiries and 45 outstanding complaints that remained open as of 1st January 2018.

The Report will also be available on the Ombudsman Bermuda website  and Facebook page

A survey has been included at the end of the Report and is also be available online here. We welcome your feedback.

The 15th Annual Report (2018) of the Ombudsman de Montréal (OdM) entitled « An Added Value for Montréal » was filed with Montreal City Council on Monday (June 17). This report includes statistical and general information on our activities, examples of files we handled as well as information on the role and mandate of our office. Part 4 of the report is particularly interesting: it provides an overview of all the 2018 OdM interventions for each entity over which we have jurisdiction.  RA_ODM_2018_ENG

4:10 pm Ombudsman Toronto: Celebrating One Decade – Looking to the Next

The City of Toronto Ombudsman says 2019 marks a decade of success for her office in its work to ensure fairness in City services and administration.

“Ombudsman Toronto was a brand new idea when it was first established” says Susan Opler. “There had never been a municipal Ombudsman in Ontario. The City’s administration, elected officials, staff at Ombudsman Toronto and the public can all take pride in what we have accomplished.”

In Ombudsman Toronto’s 2018 Annual Report, Opler praised councillors and staff for supporting her office’s independent oversight of the City’s operations. She quoted one senior City staff member: “In my view, Ombudsman Toronto has delivered and exceeded on all the goals that were envisioned when the function was first created.”

To mark its 15th anniversary, OMBUDSMAN de MONTRÉAL is launching a Practical Guide on Equity Decision-Making for managers and employees of the public administration who make decisions that may have an impact on one or more citizens. This guide is available (in French) on the website (in the Publications section).

The 45th Annual Report of the Office of the Correctional Investigator (2017-18) was tabled October 30, 2018 before Parliament and is now available at

The 2017-18 Annual Report makes 21 recommendations and includes a review of the December 2016 deadly riot at Saskatchewan Penitentiary. As a special focus of this year’s report, the Saskatchewan Penitentiary investigation raises serious concerns about the appropriateness and adequacy of the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) investigating itself in the aftermath of a serious incident.

12:33 pm Taxpayers’ Ombudsman 2016-2017 Annual Report tabled in Parliament

November 22, 2017 – Ottawa, Ontario – Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman

Ms. Kamal Khera, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue, tabled the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman 2016-2017 Annual Report in the House of Commons.

“Fairness: A right, not a privilege” is the theme of this year’s report. It addresses the issue of fairness and how it applies to the Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) delivery of service to taxpayers, and how the Ombudsman continues to help the CRA improve its service to taxpayers. Keep on reading
